Service Installations

Service Investigation

The Corporation shall conduct an initial investigation for each service application submitted at the corporation office to determine as to whether the service request is a Standard, Non-Standard, or Drop-In Service Request. Further investigations shall be conducted as necessary for all Service Requests and the results reported under the following conditions.

Standard Service Installation

Standard Service is defined as service on an existing pipeline where pipeline or service facility extensions are not required and special design and/or engineering considerations are not necessary. Typically, this would include 5/8" x 3/4" size water meter services set on an existing affronting pipeline or 4" gravity sewer taps on an existing affronting pipeline. All Standard Service Requests shall be investigated and applicable costs of providing service shall be quoted in writing within five (5) working days of application.

Non-Standard Service Installation

Non-Standard Service is defined as any service request which requires a meter larger than  a 5/8" x 3/4" meter, line extension, or an addition to the supply, storage and/or distribution system. Typically, non-standard service includes road bores or street crossings and line extensions or upgrades. All Non-Standard Service Requests shall be subject to a Service Investigation Fee, appropriate for each project, of sufficient amount to cover all administrative, legal, and engineering costs associated with the investigation of the corporation's ability to provide service to the applicant. A Cost Estimate will be prepared in order to determine applicable costs of providing service and shall be quoted in writing within ten (10) working days of application.

Drop-In Installation

Drop-In Service is defines as any location where a meter was previously installed and service can be activated simply by installing a new meter and meter box. All applicable costs for providing service for a Drop-In Service request shall be quoted to the applicant at the time of application.

Customer Service Inspection

A Customer Service Inspection (CSI) is required of all new service locations because MHWSC is responsible for protecting the drinking water supply from contamination or pollution which could result from improper private water distribution system construction or configuration. The CSI is an examination of the customerís private water distribution facilities for the purpose of providing or denying water service. This inspection is limited to the identification and prevention of cross-connections, potential contaminant hazards, and illegal lead materials. The state requires the utility to enforce these restrictions to ensure the public health and welfare.    Read more
