Progreso Water Quality Improvement Project
This project consists of constructing a new micro filtration reverse osmosis water treatment plant in Progreso to process brackish well water to improve the quality of the water provided to customers in the cities of Progreso and Progreso Lakes. The project total cost was $2,030,000.00 of which $1,250,000.00 was a grant and $780,000.00 was a loan. The plant was completed on May 21, 2010 and went into full operation on July 1, 2010.
Progreso Wastewater Treatment Plant Project
This project consists of constructing a new extended aeration mechanical wastewater treatment plant to replace the existing biological pond treatment system, to increase the treatment capacity from 400,000 GPD to 750,000 GPD, and to improve the quality of the treatment of the wastewater in order to produce a cleaner discharge into the Arroyo Colorado. The project total cost is $5,465,000.00 which is funded with a grant of $1,366,000.00 and a loan of $3,992,000.00. The construction of the plant started in November of 2010 and went into operation in January 2012.
Joines Road RO Water Treatment Plant
This project consists of constructing a new micro filtration reverse osmosis water treatment plant on Joines Road south of San Benito to process brackish well water increasing the supply capacity of the Cameron County water system by two (2) million gallons of treated water per day. Customers south of San Benito and northwest of Brownsville will benefit from this new plant. The project also involves the construction of a Customer Service Center in Relampago on US Highway 281 east of Progreso. The project total cost is estimated to be $8,200,000.00 and will be funded by a grant of $2,000,000.00 and a loan of $6,200,000.00. The construction of the Water Treatment Plant and Service Center started in January 2012. The Customer Service Center was completed in December 2012. The Water Plant has a scheduled completion date of July 2014.
Las Rusias Water Treatment Plant Water Quality Improvement Project
This project consists of installing a micro filtration reverse osmosis water treatment process at the existing Las Rusias Water Treatment Plant in Los Indios to improve the quality of the water produced at the plant and reduce the level of arsenic found in the well water. This project will impact customers in the service area of Cameron County who receive treated water from this plant. The project total cost is estimated at $3,900,000.00 and which will be funded by a 100% loan from the Rural Utility Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The required Pilot study started in December of 2010 was completed in April of 2011. Final plans and specification are prepared and construction of the new treatment facilities should commence in early 2014 as soon as additional funding is provided with a scheduled completed date of December 2014.
North Loop Water line Project
This project consists of installing a new water line loop on the north side of the Cameron County water distribution system starting at FM 2556 north of Santa Maria and traveling east along FM 800 towards FM 1479 and from FM 2520 east towards FM 1577 and FM 1421. Funding for this project is pending.
Cameron County Generator Project
This project consists of installing three generators at key sewer system lift stations to insure continuous operation during weather related power outages. The three locations are in Los Indios, La Paloma, and San Pedro. Funds for this project were obtained by Cameron County from FEMA. This project is finished and generators are operational.
